Living deep underground in isolated subterranean villages, 14-year-old digger Simon dreams of one day breaking through to Earth's surface. Along with the orphan Kamina and their fellow humans of the Dai-Gurren Brigade, he makes his way to the surface, where a whole new world awaits them. In the second volume, Simon and his friends battle the Beastmen armies of Lord Genome. When Kamina is killed Simon's spirit suffers, but his new friend Nia, discovered at a dumpsite, may hold the key to renewing his will.
